The Days Between Christmas and New Year and How to Bounce Back

Those strange days between Christmas and New Year can feel oddly heavy.

Routine disappears. Sleep shifts. Food and drink creep up without much thought. Movement drops off. Before you know it, you feel flat, foggy and out of sorts.

A lot of people assume it’s laziness or lack of willpower. It’s not.

It’s simply what happens when structure disappears and the body and mind lose their usual rhythm.

Here’s my advice. Simple and effective.

Put yourself together.

By that I don’t mean dressed up, but go for it if you want. what I do mean is intentional.

Put a bit of makeup on. Lippy and blush will do. Brush your hair. Add your jewellery. Then get out for a walk.

You don’t need to trail the shops unless you want to. You can walk to the local shop to get a pint of milk, which is your excuse to go. Or you can head further afield, and do a bigger shop.  You can wear a tracksuit. But wear your jewellery too.

Something shifts when you do this.

You stand taller. Your posture improves. You feel more confident and more like yourself. Jewellery has weight. Presence. It reminds you that you’re not just “getting through the day” — you’re showing up for it.

Then there’s the walk itself.

A fast paced walk, especially in cold, crisp air, is one of the most underrated mood lifters there is. It clears the head. It regulates blood sugar. It supports digestion after days of indulgence. It wakes the nervous system up in a good way.

Cold air sharpens the senses. Your breathing deepens. Your thoughts settle. You come home feeling lighter, calmer and oddly proud of yourself for doing something that took very little effort but gave a big return.

And here’s the important part.

Consistency beats intensity every time.

You don’t need a grand reset or a strict plan. Just build walking into your everyday life. Same route. Same time. No overthinking. Let it become non negotiable.

When you combine movement with small acts of self-respect like wearing jewellery you love and putting a bit of care into your appearance, you reinforce a powerful message to yourself.

I matter. I’m worth showing up for.

Those in between days don’t need fixing. They need grounding.

Walk. Breathe. Put yourself together.

Do that consistently and you’ll feel like yourself again far quicker than you expect.
