Retrograde, Retroshade, and Real Life: Using This Pause to Reset

We’re stepping out of the first Mercury retrograde of 2026, which ran from February 26 to March 20 in Pisces. But if you’re feeling like life is still a bit foggy, slow, or just off, don’t worry—you’re not imagining it. Mercury retrograde doesn’t officially end on the 20th. We’re now entering the “retroshade” or post-shadow phase, which lasts until April 9. Think of it as the echo of the retrograde: life starts moving forward, but there’s still a little backward motion, a bit of fine-tuning, and the occasional curveball.

If you’re juggling work, family, gym schedules, and all the little everyday chaos that comes with life, retrograde can feel like an invisible hand nudging things off course. Emails get lost, plans get delayed, tech glitches appear at the worst time, and miscommunications can sneak in anywhere. And if you’ve been feeling a bit more emotional, dreamy, or confused than usual, that’s Pisces energy mixing in—pulling old patterns or unresolved feelings to the surface so you can actually deal with them.

This is not the time to push hard. It’s not the time to start a huge new project, sign contracts, or commit to big life changes. Instead, it’s the perfect moment to:

  • Check the basics: Go over emails, appointments, and plans. Backup your files. Make sure things you rely on daily are secure. A little double-checking now saves headaches later.
  • Tidy up loose ends: Finish that half-started project, clear your inbox, sort through paperwork, or revisit an old task you’ve been putting off. Mercury retrograde has a habit of resurfacing the unfinished stuff, but that’s actually a gift.
  • Reflect on your routines and energy: Use this time to look at what’s working for you and what’s not. Are you running yourself ragged trying to fit everything in? Are there small tweaks to daily habits, like workouts, meals, or sleep, that could make life smoother? Retrograde is an invitation to pause and reset rather than rush.
  • Lean into self-care and grounding: It might feel counterintuitive to slow down when life is busy, but taking small, deliberate steps to ground yourself—morning stretches, walks, mindful meals—can make a huge difference. Think of it as maintenance for your body, mind, and sanity.

The post-shadow “retroshade” phase can sometimes feel even weirder than the retrograde itself. Things may still feel delayed or confusing, or suddenly, clarity appears in unexpected ways. The trick is to trust the timing. Life isn’t broken—it’s just pausing for a minute so you can come back stronger, more focused, and more intentional.

By the time the retroshade ends on April 9, you’ll be ready to move into spring with renewed energy, clearer priorities, and the ability to handle the everyday chaos with a little more grace. The days are longer, the sun is brighter, and you’ll have had a chance to tidy up the mental, emotional, and practical clutter that can weigh down life.

So instead of dreading the chaos or worrying about delays, lean into this pause. Reflect, review, and reset. Mercury retrograde isn’t a roadblock—it’s a reset button disguised as a messy few weeks. When you come out the other side, you’ll be grounded, aligned, and ready to tackle everything life throws at you… with a bit more ease, and a lot more clarity.
