Autumn has rolled in and I always think that I don’t want summer to end, but honestly, I love it when it comes around. The light changes, the mornings feel cooler, and everything slows down a little. The chaos of summer shifts gear, but one thing I know for sure is that fitness doesn’t stop when life gets busy or the seasons change. It just adapts.
Food That Fits The Season

This is the time of year when I naturally move away from salads and lighter meals and start craving hearty, warming food. That doesn’t mean writing off nutrition or throwing protein out the window. For me, it’s about making small swaps:
- Roasting trays of root veg that double as quick sides all week
- Frying green beans and broccoli with chilli is great for a side dish
- Making one-pot meals where I know protein is the main event
Hitting my protein target isn’t perfect every day, but it’s doable if I build it into food, I want to eat this time of year. As always, I bump up with protein shakes or straight into a cup of hot coffee.
Training When The Days Get Shorter
Dark mornings and evenings can make it really tempting to skip the gym, but this is where I’ve learned consistency matters more than anything. My approach is simple:
- Keep gym sessions to an hour, focused and efficient
- Prioritise strength work so I’m building and maintaining muscle
- Walk whenever I can in daylight and dry weather, it’s as much for my head as my steps
The chaos is always there. work, kids, house, dogs etc, but the gym stays non-negotiable.
Mindset For Autumn

I remind myself that autumn is a season of slowing down, not stopping. It’s a time to:
- Let go of chasing perfect routines
- Lean into comfort without guilt
- Accept that chaos is the baseline, but progress still happens
It’s not about being superhuman, it’s about being consistent enough to keep moving forward. Your future self will thank you. Trust me.
The Grounding Extras
For me, autumn also shows up in the little details. The cosy clothes, the earthy colours, and even the jewellery I wear. I’ve been stacking warm browns, golds and crystal pieces that feel grounding and seasonal. Small touches, but they make me feel put together even when the rest of the day is madness.
Final Thought
Fit Around the Chaos isn’t about perfect routines or flawless nutrition. It’s about working with what’s in front of you. The season, the schedule, the chaos and still finding ways to feel strong. Autumn reminds me that change is natural, and strength is something you carry with you through every cycle.
Woken up and read this. It’s a really positive introduction to autumn. Lost a bit of gym mojo. Injury and enthusiasm. But feel you ve inspired me to get my act together.
